Smith

Smith is long and lean, with a beautifully shaped timber frame. The table's apparent simplicity conceals complex internal engineering which includes a supporting steel sub-frame.

The table is versatile due to the top which sits lightly on the frame, enabling the use of glass or timber, with a subtle shadow line detail separating the two elements.

Background

Founded in 2009, the studio has an international outlook built on the bedrock of Italy's enviable design heritage, and Italian culture's emphasis on quality, craftmanship and beauty. Designed to be versatile and maintain a continuous dialogue with architecture, Metrica furniture is as at ease in a residential space as it is in a commercial project, able to respond to the unique demands of both environments. The studio's versatile designs are characterised by their contemporary form, an understanding of the delicate relationship between objects and volumes and a commitment to technological innovation in both materials and processes.

Experience

Metrica studio is defined not only by the beauty of their products, but the extraordinary pedigree of the company's co-founders. Chief designer Robin Rizzini spent six years working with design luminary Antonio Citterio and has designed for brands including Zanotta and Poliform.

Rizzini's experience is complemented and supported by the entrepreneurial approach and impressive industry experience of his co-founder Lucio Quinzio Leonelli. Leonelli, Metrica's President and Managing Partner, is a former Manager and Director of B&B Italia and Moooi and worked with Rizzini at Fattorini+Rizzini+Partners.
